Making Mnemonics Stick
Mnemonics are great for memorization but what about when you make one up and STILL can’t remember it? Here are a few great tips for students whether they’re the mobilebroadband4g.com 4G internet type or the flash card type to help them keep their mnemonics down
Choose Uncommon Words: Words like “and” don’t really stick with your brain because you hear them all the time. If possible, create a mnemonic using only uncommon words and it’s about twice as likely to stick with you.
Sing It!: You may feel silly but if you make up a song to go along with the spelled-out version of your mnemonic you’re already one step ahead of the game. Be sure to associate the words with a song you already know well like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Share Your Mnemonics: The more you talk about them and write them down the more they’ll stick. Share what you’ve come up with with other students and see what sticks with them – if they can’t remember your creations you know you’ve got to go back to the drawing board.
